The Consultation of Religious Communities is a local network of faith communities, social service agencies, advocacy groups and others who believe in the dignity of all persons, and share a concern for the quality of life and well-being of individuals and families in Johnson County. The CRC gathers on a regular basis for interfaith dialogue, to advocate for social and economic justice and to plan and sponsor programs and events that will help meet the basic needs of all.

History

In the late 1960's, area clergy and their churches desired to form a partnership in order to "do together what could be done better than doing it separately."  From that initial gathering came the congregationally organized Ecumenical Consultation of Churches.  The "Consultation," as it became known, was instrumental in ecumenical dialogue and social outreach.  An ecumenical worship was held on Pentecost Sunday in the old UI Fieldhouse to inaugurate the organization.  The Consultation assisted in the development of the Ecumenical Towers, Emergency Housing, and many other ministries.  In 1996, at the request of faith communities other than Christian, restrictions on membership ended and the Consultation became open to all religious communities.
